Great Reading!

Great Reading!

These are some of the books that I’ve read (or listened to on my iPod) that have made a difference in my life. They have helped me on my journey to spiritual, mental and physical wellness.  With all the books out there, I find it is sometimes difficult to find ones that really resonate with you.  When I find one that does, I love to share them with my friends.  So, I share them with you in hopes that you will find them as inspiring and helpful as I did.

Boundaries : When to Say Yes, When to Say No-To Take Control of Your Life     by Cloud and Townsend This was the first book that I read of theirs.  It was just what I needed and just when I needed it.  I still refer back to it when I’m feeling like I need a refresher in setting my own personal boundaries.  ”A boundary is a personal property line that marks those things for which we are responsible. In other words, boundaries define who we are and who we are not. They impact all areas of our lives.” – quote from book.

boundaries In Marriage by Cloud and Townsend   This book made a huge difference to me and my marriage.  I’ve always struggled with boundaries and being a child of divorce, I did not have a clear and solid foundation on which to judge a healthy relationship.  The authors state it best…”Once we know the boundaries, we know who should be owning the problem we are wrestling with,” the authors write. “This issue of ownership is vital to any relationship, especially marriage.” But more significantly, couples need to claim and take responsibility for the “treasures that lie within their individual borders,” such as: “feelings, attitudes, behaviors, choices, limits, desires, thoughts, values, talents, and love.” Based on the book that elevated them to national prominence, Cloud and Townsend caution readers not to use this self-help manifesto as a means to change one’s spouse. Rather, this is a book about taking responsibility for oneself in all aspects of life, but especially within the boundaries of marital commitment.
